Berlin/Frankfurt, Germany (October 20, 2005) -- The total expenditure for business travel in Germany dropped from 54.1 billion Euro in 2003 to 44.0 billion Euro in 2004, VDR The Business Travel Association of Germany says. According to the new “VDR Business Travel Report Germany 2005”, the number of trips remained stable, though: 146.4 million trips 2004 compared to 147.4 million in 2003.

Biometric Passport Deadline Extended

Machine Readable Passport Reminder Issued

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today issued a reminder to Visa Wavier Program countries that as of June 26, 2005, all those entering the United States must have a machine-readable passport. Also effective that date, air carriers will be charged $3,300, per violation, for transporting any VWP traveler to the US without a proper passport. Full Story
NBTA participated in a conference call with DHS, TSA, State Department, and other industry leaders today regarding the upcoming deadline. "NBTA will continue to be a part of the public and private sector coalition, and will provide information like this to our members as the news breaks," said NBTA Executive Director and COO, Bill Connors, CTC. During the call, DHS also reiterated the fact that as this deadline approaches adults traveling to the U.S. with children need to be aware that each individual will need his/her own passport, children will no longer be allowed to enter the U.S. on his/her parent's passport.

ATM Denmark Joins the Paragon Partnership

NBTA Praises House Vote to Extend Biometric Passport Deadline

ABTA Launches the Certified Business Travel Executive (CBTE) Professional Development Program

NBTA Releases Data Privacy/ CAPPS II White Paper

To inform its members and the industry of the larger impact of new travel security measures in the USA, the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) Data Protection Committee has prepared a new white paper, "Travel Managers' Guide to Data Privacy." The document provides a comprehensive overview of proposed CAPPS II regulation and new security measures at U.S. airports, including biometric visa requirements and registered traveler proposals. The paper also outlines issues of particular interest to the business travel community, including new data requirements that may affect the information corporations request from their travelers, the systems they have to manage this data, and the benefits and risks of the proposed registered traveler program.
30th VDR-Spring Conference in Dresden

More than 330 business travel professionals from Germany, Austria and Switzerland attended VDR’s Spring Conference 2004 in Dresden. From April 21 to 23 the delegates took the opportunity to discuss controversial topics such as zero commissions of airlines to be implemented in the fall. Delegates also learned about new travel management tools and techniques such as Online Booking Engines and how to select them, and exchanged ideas and visions about the future structure of the business travel community. In VDR’s 30th year, cost saving policies dominate the job of travel managers. VDR therefore continues and increases hands-on support for its members. The VDR Fall Conference will take place November 4-5 in Munich, Germany.
Paragon Partners Accept Finnish Business Travel Association as Member

Deadline Extension for the Machine Readable Passport Requirement

NBTA commends the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security for deciding to delay the implementation of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) requirements for nationals from most of the twenty-seven countries that participate in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. The October 1st deadline was postponed for one year. NBTA and its international counterparts have urged the Government for the extension because of concerns that the initially proposed deadline was unrealistic and would have impaired travel to the United States and disrupted the efficient conduct of global commerce.
ITM Survey Shows Slow Recovery for Business Travel

NBTA Expresses Concern about New Visa and Passport Requirements for Foreign Travel to the United States

Alexandria, VA (July 11, 2003) -- At a Congressional hearing in Washington D.C., the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) submitted written testimony voicing the Association’s concerns regarding new visa and passport requirements for foreign citizens traveling to the United States. According to new policies of the State and Homeland Security departments, all citizens of countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program who wish to enter the country visa-free must present a machine readable passport beginning October 1, 2003. Travelers from these countries who do not hold such passports must obtain a U.S. non-immigrant visa, and the process involves undergoing a visa interview.
